Eat This Scroll

“Then he said to me, ‘Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.’ So I opened my mouth, and He fed me this scroll. And He said to me, ‘Son of man, feed your stomach, and fill your body with this scroll which I am giving you.’ Then I ate it, and it was sweet as honey in my mouth.”
(Ezekiel 3:1-3)

What a great picture of what we’re supposed to do with God’s Word. God recently showed me a vision of this, intensifying this message on my heart. This morning I searched for the passages in the Bible that speak of this, and already I’ve discovered deeper meaning that I did not possess before.

These verses brought great encouragement, confirmation and inspiration to me today. I pray that myself and all of you grow in hunger for God and His Word.

I pray that we do not gloss over our reading of God’s Word. Let us chew on it and devour it, letting it roll over and over in our minds throughout the day, giving us true strength and joy in living as the nutrients of God’s Word nourish every part of us! This is how meditation on the Word is defined.

The other part of this passage regards Ezekiel being told, “go, speak to the house of Israel.” Lord, let us devour Your words in such a way that we can make them known to others as You put it on our hearts to do so.

God, help me to feast on Your Word more and more. Help all of us do this for both our benefit and the benefit of others. Equip us to do so. Teach us Your truths and open our eyes to the wonderful things in Your Word (Psalm 119:18). Bring it to our minds continually throughout each day. Amen!
