How to Pray God’s Word

Below are some examples in how to pray verses from the Bible. I pray these will help you grow in your prayer and devotional life with God.

Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. (Genesis 1:3)

Prayer: God, all You have to do is speak & it will be. This is simply what I ask You today, God. Intervene and let Your light shine. Thank You, Lord!

Many are saying, “Who will show us any good?” Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O LORD! (Psalm 4:6)

Prayer: God, I hold to Your Word that You work all things for the good of those who love You (Romans 8:28). Let Your light, truth and love shine upon us, and lead us in by Your light and Your truth.

Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. (Psalm 62:8)

Prayer: Thank You that I can pour out my heart to You no matter what I’m feeling, knowing You care deeply. You are my refuge and safety!

Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light
And your judgment as the noonday.
Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
(Psalm 37:5-7)

Prayer: Thank You for Your great promises, Lord, and that as I commit my way to You and trust You, You will bring forth my righteousness as the dawn, and my judgment as the noonday. Help me to rest in You and Your promises, waiting patiently for You to act on my behalf. Thank You that I have no reason to fear or to fret, but that Your plans always prevail!

…this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. (Philippians 1:9-11)

Prayer: Lord, let our love abound more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, that we would approve the excellent things, and that we’d be sincere and blameless in every way until Christ’s return. Fill us with the fruit of righteousness through Jesus, for Your glory and praise!

…as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. (Colossians 3:12-14)

Prayer: Lord, as Your people, help us put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, especially in bearing with one another, and let us forgive each other as You’ve forgiven us. Let us truly love one another–just as You love us–being perfectly united together by Your Spirit.
