Choosing to be still is often the most challenging thing to do in times of difficulty, yet God calls us to trust Him. Trusting Him is not always easy, but choosing to still our souls is always a wise first response to consider.
Perhaps a loved one is in dire need and you can only do so much. Trust God to lead you and care for them. Pray for their needs and pray for what He would have you do, but try not to stress. Instead be still and know that He is God.
Maybe you are facing rejection or misunderstanding. Pour out your heart to the Lord who comforts us. Trust in His love to satisfy your aching heart. Rest in His presence and let His love bring healing. Be still and know that He is God.
When facing pressures from others, rest and seek God’s guidance and strength. Be still and seek His leadership so you can know best how to respond. We want to do our part, but sometimes the expectations of others do not agree with what God is leading us to do. In this, stop, pray and be still. Know that He is God.
Most of us have learned that we cannot make things happen, so striving and stressing over things is fruitless. We only waste our already limited human energy, or give our emotions and flesh allowances to overwhelm us.
In all these things and more, the life-giving words of Jesus remind us to do things differently. Time and again He beckons us first to wait, trust and be still. Below are several verses to take to heart:
“The Lord will fight for you while you [only need to] keep silent and remain calm.” Exodus 14:14
“…in returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength…” Isaiah 30:15 (ESV)
“Trust [rely on and have confidence] in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land and feed [securely] on His faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.” Psalm 37:3-4
“Be still before the Lord; wait patiently for Him and entrust yourself to Him; Do not fret (whine, agonize) because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.” Psalm 37:7
“Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing.” James 1:2-4
“Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
If our God shall be exalted among the nations, how much more in the things of our lives? Rest and be still. Turn it all into His hands. Obey and follow as He leads. Then seek to be at peace in the waiting, trusting His ability to take care of it all.
Truly it is easier said than done; nonetheless, the Holy Spirit will strengthen, comfort and counsel us if we ask Him and take time to be still in His presence. He will help us be patient, hopeful and steadfast in our trials, heartaches and challenges.
The Lord beckons us to trust and remember that He is fully good. He longs for us to let go and let Him work as we wait on Him in quiet confidence. We can trust in His promises that our strength will be renewed as we wait on Him (Isaiah 40:31) and that His love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8).
Rest, trust and cast every care upon Him who cares for you deeply. Let Him refresh and revive your needy heart.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (AMP)
Let Him be God, and take your mind off the burdens and needs. Let Him saturate you in His love and the truth that He is a good Father working on behalf of His beloved. He is faithful!
