With the challenges of a pandemic topping off any difficulties we’re already facing, we may find ourselves experiencing loneliness even more deeply this year.
Some of us may be physically alone, whereas others may be surrounded by many, and yet experiencing loneliness for any number of reasons or perhaps due to circumstances outside of our control. No matter your situation this year, remember the promises of God:
The Lord has come and He will come again. Christ Jesus came, born in the most humble state as a babe. He lived upon the earth, suffered so much and is able to sympathize with us (Hebrews 4:15). And then He gave His very life for us.
“Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:14-16 (ESV)
Christ then rose again to life eternal by the power of God. In doing so, the Lord is able to help us easily as the One who redeemed us from sin. And He will return again to complete the work of making every wrong thing right, wiping away every tear, and ridding us of every pain (Revelation 21:4).
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

In our “has been and gone” and in our “not yet,” His faithfulness is sure. His Holy Spirit is with all who have called upon His name in saving faith. He so cares for us and desires to comfort us.
Whisper your prayer to Him in this time. Call out in the loneliness, the turmoil, or whatever it happens to be: “O come, Immanuel. I am in need of You.”
He is the only one able to help completely and truly. Let’s make room for the Savior to make Himself known to us as the God who is with us no matter what we are feeling or facing. Take up His Word and remind yourself of His precious promises.
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,

and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).”
The Lord will never leave us and has given His Holy Spirit to comfort and help us. Even if we’re feeling lonely, our true reality is this: God is with us!
