All Because of Love

The love Jesus has for us carries such weight that He left Heaven’s perfect atmosphere, free of suffering and lack, to deliver us. He left the place where He was never separated from His Father all because of love for us.

Jesus left Heaven’s home and clothed Himself as a child in humility. A baby cannot survive without its parents, and Jesus–fully God–also became fully man, subjecting Himself to this dire vulnerability.

All for love Christ faced need, weakness, hunger and humility. And then He faced pain, betrayal, persecution and suffering unto the death of the Cross.

Not simply by the pain of the Cross, but also by the life-taking blow of sin, Jesus went through the very worst of the worst compared to any other. It wasn’t that He experienced pain greater than all, but it was that He was the only one who would take upon Himself the sins of all that they may be free.

This was a burden no human could survive being placed upon them. It was the weight of sin that took His life. In willingly giving up His life the Father resurrected Him as the firstborn of the dead so that we too could reign in live with Him. Continue reading

Hope Will Arise in You

Some of you may be experiencing pain, suffering and even hopelessness, perhaps for a long time. You may feel that you are at your breaking point or far beyond it. Hold on to Jesus. The Lord will come through for you, though it seems He has delayed.

“…we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Romans 5:3-5 (NKJV)

This seems backwards for what we might think. Don’t we need hope in order to persevere? But true hope is refined in the fires of trial, where it is harder to believe than in times of ease.

God’s hope never disappoints. Through the suffering you are experiencing, God is bringing forth the good of perseverance in your life. And through your perseverance, His heart and His character are being formed in you.

As you begin to see how He is working in you, the hope you so desperately need will begin to come forth. Hope arises within you because God’s love and tender care for you is being revealed as He gives His help, wisdom and understanding in your heart and life. You begin to experience what the Scriptures say: that the Holy Spirit has poured forth the Father’s love into your heart and it will never be taken away.

I know it isn’t at all easy as I share this, having gone through hopelessness, trials and pain as well, even at times to the point of wanting to simply be done with the earthly life and escape to be in Heaven with the Lord. It can be most difficult because in the midst hopelessness, it may seem that change will never come.  Continue reading

Divine Betrothal

At all times we must remember that we are His. We belong to the Lord, not to another. We are His. We have family, friends, spouses, employers and others calling upon us in varying degrees of need, but firstly we belong to Christ.

Jesus doesn’t want us wearing ourselves out trying to fix everything or running ourselves thin striving to please everyone. He simply wants our hearts, our love, and our obedience in that love. He asks not for us to be enslaved to Him but to be engaged to Him.

He is the One who calls us to come close. He calls us to serve as ambassadors of reconciliation for His Kingdom, yet He also beckons us to come and rest our weary heads.

Jesus, our Messiah, Lord, Savior and King. He is our Bridegroom. He longs to be our first go-to, our greatest Companion, our closest Friend. He wants to be the One we seek before we phone a friend, before we seek out the pastor. He wants to be the shoulder we cry on, the Deliverer we rely on. Continue reading

From Strength to Strength (Psalm 84)

You and I are called to a holy pursuit: the pursuit of friendship with God. Our goal? The closest possible relationship we can have with the Lord, even on this side of eternity. This is the center from which our lives and His Kingdom flow.

The Lord alone satisfies. As wants for success, love, and contentment surface in your life, keep this truth in mind. This truth is key to our pursuit of Jesus.

When we know worldly pursuits will never satisfy, we will more readily refuse to seek other things to meet our God-given longings. We will resolve within ourselves to stay steady on a pilgrimage of pursuit after God’s heart.

Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
Psalm 84:5 (NKJV)

At times the yearning within your heart may make itself known with impatience and neediness as you say no to worldly ways, fleshly lust, and selfish pride. But simply remind your soul: Jesus is worth every self denial. He is worth the weeping, the aching, the waiting.

Keep going and don’t give up. Keep saying “yes” to this pilgrimage day by day, even through the failures and temptations. Get back up again and reset your face upon Jesus. Continue reading

Connecting with God: Dealing with Distractions

Our fascination with Christ’s heart can increase daily. As we ponder His sacrifice of love, we will grow in love for Him. As we reflect on the beauty of His character, worldly cravings will fade. Seek Him consistently and you will find yourself longing to be with Him more and more.

This is surely easier said than done of course. There are battles to face as we spend time with God, namely, distractions!

Dealing with Distractions

Distractions are a part of daily life. Our quiet times with God are a challenge when distractions fill our minds. Often more time is needed to experience a deeper connection with God.

So how do we deal with distractions?
