Experiencing God’s Love and Freedom in Spiritual Community

Did you know that some of the lies we struggle with can be extinguished as we do life in community?

There are some lies we can be set free from especially as we do life with others in community. Things that can only be proven to us when we are not alone, not isolated nor in hiding. I’ve recently learned this in a big way in the midst of my own Christ-centered spiritual family.

As someone both in spiritual community and in leadership, I was so afraid to let my guard down. By choosing to face my fears, I discovered that I can stop trying to be perfect and that I don’t have to act like I’m okay when I’m not. I’ve discovered I can be the “still-in-process” me around them.

I’ve come to know that I can share my pains and struggles, knowing God will meet me there and display His love through them. I’ve seen the love of Jesus in the people of the house of prayer where I have planted myself.

Some of the lies that can be confronted in community include the fear of being rejected, abandoned, or hurt by people. Other lies relate to feeling like you don’t measure up, or that you have to be perfect or good enough to be loved or accepted. Continue reading

Why Do We Do What We Do

How often do we search our hearts with the help of the Holy Spirit, seeking to know why we do what we do? Take the time, ask Him to shine the Light of His refining torch into your soul.

The things we do, do we do them to fulfill a need within us or because of wanting to share the love of God with others? For most of us, the answer will be both at times.

Each of us has longings. We all ache at times and seek to numb the pain through activity. We all experience emptiness that fuels what we do as we desire to be filled.

Christ wants to fill the emptiness. He wants to satisfy the ravenous wants we have as human beings. But it requires that we face the pain of not numbing ourselves.

We have to surrender the mindless actions we often undertake, such as repeatedly checking Facebook, sleeping away the day, or binge-watching the next new TV series. It requires that we cease doing things, even serving people, to try to grab onto anything to make us feel whole.

How often do we engage in activity for the sake of self over truly giving form an overflow of God’s love? At the least, we all love imperfectly. Each of us will be perfected in His love season by season as we grow in relationship with the Lord.

So what is Jesus wanting to work within us?

God Sees Your Heart

The Lord your God is with you; He is mighty to save (Zephaniah 3:17). He sees your shortcomings, yet He always sees your heart. He says,

“I am your Strength even in weakness. I am your Hope in the storm. I am your Rear Guard and your Stronghold. Run to Me. Come to Me. Do not be afraid.

There is no shame anymore. There is no need for fear. I have perfected you in My love. It is done in Heaven, and in time you will walk it out more and more. You have been set free to call Me ‘Abba, Father.’ I am your Creator, your Father, your God.

You are My beloved always. Nothing can change that–no trial, no failure, no pain. Keep your ‘yes’ to Me and do not give up.

Keep coming to Me. When you fall, get back up again. Run to Me and not away. I await you each time with open arms, not with condemnation but with the desire to release forgiveness and set you free.

I am looking at your heart, My love. Come and rest in My love.

Scriptures for Reflection

“And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)

Come to Me and Have Your Sins Wiped Away

On this first day of 2016, I was hearing this from the Lord’s heart for someone:

“I see your sins as far as the east is from the west. No more will they be if you will but come to Me for forgiveness and receive My love and mercy.

“I have made provision for you through My Son Jesus, and I want to view you only through the eyes of His sacrifice which paid the price, but you must receive of Me the forgiveness I have extended. You must come to Me and receive of the life I have to give. You just need to turn from living your own way and come lean on Me, for My ways for you are far better and full of much love and joy and peace.

“Start this new year by being made new by the One who made you. And for love I have made you, so come love on Me and let Me love on you. I am longing for you…”

“As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12 NKJV)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)

Fighting for Your Life

No matter what, know this: Jesus is fighting for you. He is fighting for your life. He is singing over you with songs of deliverance, breaking off every fear, catching every tear.

He knows your frame, He knows the pain that you feel will never end. He knows the storm you are going through deep within and He speaks peace over you. He fights for you.

He will never ever, no, never abandon you.

You may not feel that He is near, but He is nearer than your natural senses can fully comprehend. When we focus on the tumultuous waves and howling winds, sensing His presence may be more difficult, but He is fighting for you, beloved.

He loves you without end, and no matter what you are going through, He sees you and holds you close.

“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will overwhelm me,
And the light around me will be night,’
Even the darkness is not dark to You,
And the night is as bright as the day.
Darkness and light are alike to You.”
(Psalm 139:11-12 NASB)
