Preparing to Pray: Organizing Your God Time

How we prepare for time with Jesus can affect the quality of that time. Our pre-prayer preparation matters, in both posturing our hearts and preparing a place and plan. In this article, I share about the practical side of organizing our daily devotional time.

These tips require us to plan ahead. Don’t wait until a few minutes before your quiet time, but ready everything beforehand. Continue reading

How to Guard Your Heart: The Online Edition

In this life, we know we are to guard our hearts. Encounters with toxic people, the offended, the abusive, bullies and more. These reveal the necessity. They are in our workplaces and classrooms, even in our families and amongst the Body of Christ.

I specifically want to address guarding our hearts online, on Facebook and social media. Much of this comes from personal experience (including mistakes) as well as wisdom received from godly mentors and friends. Some can be applied offline as well.

To start: How do we guard our hearts? We guard our hearts in various ways. We do so by not letting others’ remarks and behaviors get to us. We take our fears, hurts and anxieties to Jesus and allow Him to wash us with His peace.

Furthermore, we guard our hearts by having boundaries and not allowing toxic people access. We guard our hearts like we do our living spaces. We do our part to keep out anything toxic. We don’t let potentially combustible items near the fire of Jesus’ love in our hearts. Continue reading

Renewing Your Mind in God’s Word

The journey of renewing our minds is a process. It doesn’t occur in a moment or two. It takes consistent, daily moments with Jesus over time. Nonetheless, it is one of the most beautiful parts of our journey with Him.

How can we do our part in this? By spending time with Christ in worship, prayer, and meditating on His Word.

Renewing our minds with God’s Word helps us grow in faith, hope, love and all the fruit of His Spirit. As we spend time studying and meditating on His Word, we will experience transformation through His truth and by His Spirit.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV)

Father God loves to set us free from lies we believe and wrong mindsets we struggle with. He wants to transform our perspective concerning Him, ourselves and others. He even wants to help us not be led by our emotions when they are about to lead us astray.

Do you need peace in your life, freedom from fear and anxiety, an attitude adjustment, or other things?

Comfort in the Trials

If you are experiencing difficulties or challenges, know God sees you. Know His heart is for you. He answers when you cry out to Him. Don’t be afraid to call upon Him in your time of need.

The Lord is able to lead us by His Spirit far better than any human being. He is patient with us. He loves when we look to Him. He delights when we seek His way for our lives and in all situations.

“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
(Hebrews 4:15‭-‬16 NKJV)

Pour out your heart to Him. He can handle it. He wants to hold you close, releasing comfort and wisdom to you. He longs to speak to you from His Word. It is here where you will find His words of Spirit and life (John 6:63).

Seeking God Early

There is a preciousness to be discovered in rising early to be with the Lord. I’ve found this to be the best time to spend with Jesus. Before anything else holds me back, I awaken the day to be with this One who never slumbers nor sleeps.

It is probably your quietest time of day. The birds have yet to sing, the sun yet to rise. Our homes are quiet and few cars break the silence in passing by.

The Lord looks forward to the moment we awaken each day, just to be with us. As we set aside time to open our souls to Jesus, we declare His worth into the atmosphere of our lives.

We must be intentional. God’s Word speaks of seeking Him early. When we do not, daily tasks can steal away this time.

“O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.”‭‭ – Psalms‬ ‭63:1‬ ‭(NKJV‬)

Caitlyn, a fellow intercessory missionary, shares about her own mornings with Jesus as she ministers to Him in a prayer room in Texas, awakening the dawn at 5AM. It is so precious to Him!

Anyone can do it. I encourage even those who do not see themselves as early risers to try giving that time to the Lord by waking earlier.
