The Bride of Christ: Growing in Intimacy with God

On Fridays at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Mike Bickle recently began a series on the Bridegroom/Bride message throughout the Bible concerning us and Jesus. I have been tuning in to their online stream during this series as I seek to stay faithful to the assignments God has given me as an intercessory prayer missionary and messenger through worship, song and teaching.

This is such an important message, and in this post I wanted to share some of the points that stood out to me. If we neglect the pursuit of intimacy with God, we are missing the primary purpose of our faith and our lives. In connection with Him alone do we fully come alive!

What Is the Bridegroom Message?

In one sentence, the Bridegroom message is the call to intimacy with God by encountering His heart and love toward us, and to walk in partnership with Him. Continue reading

Why Houses of Prayer and Prayer Rooms

The Lord is zealous for the building of His house of prayer, a place where people from every nation and walk of life may come and meet together for worship and prayer both individually and in community.

In worship we choose to exalt Jesus to first place in our lives. Only from the place of prayer and worship can we effectively reach our communities.

Prayer is found in intimate relationship with God. As Mike Bickle of IHOPKC often shares, prayer is when we agree with what God wants to do. Worship is when we agree with who God is.

The Lord Himself said that His house shall be a house of prayer (Isaiah 56:7; Matthew 21:13). More and more we see the Lord stirring His people with a desire to worship and pray without ceasing. This is to be our foundation:

“One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
And to inquire in His temple.
Psalm 27:4 (NKJV)

The Lord desires believers united in one heart and one mind. Jesus prayed for us to be known by the unity we have with God and each other (John 17:21).

People of Intimacy with Christ

You and I are called to be people of intimacy. We were made for a close relationship with God. Though distractions abound, we are not alone: God’s Spirit is our Help.

The Lord is our first love and He loves us extravagantly. Despite life’s challenges, our pursuit is this: be rooted in relationship with Jesus.

John 15:5 says that without Jesus, we can do nothing.  Outside of relationship with God, you and I do nothing of true significance:

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” (John 15:4 NKJV

Fruit trees exist to bring forth a harvest of delicious fruit. But this can only come with the right location, water, and nutrients.

What ingredients are needed for our intimate relationship with God?

  1. Friendship with Jesus (the right location)
  2. God’s Holy Spirit (the water)
  3. God’s Word (the nutrients)
