In Everything, Be Still

Choosing to be still is often our wisest response in difficult situations.

Perhaps a loved one is in dire need and you can only do so much, be still and know that He is God. Pray and trust Him to lead you and care for them.

Maybe you are facing rejection or misunderstanding. Trust in His love to satisfy your aching heart. Rest in His presence and let His love bring healing.

Often we face the pressures of others as well. Most of all we need God’s guidance and strength. Being still and seeking His leadership help us know how to respond. We want to do our part, but sometimes the expectations of others do not agree with what God is leading us to do. Continue reading

In Your Deepest Need

There is One who will never forget you, One who always sees your heart. He sees your desperation for all to be made right. He sees you when no one else seems to care for you as deeply. He sees your deepest needs and the neglect you feel day after day.

He sees everything and He never leaves. He knows you better than anyone. He fulfills your needs better than any ever could. He prays for you more than any do. He loves you better than any ever will. He sees your pain and the cry of your heart to be held, ministered to, healed and comforted. Continue reading

God’s Rest in the Here and Now

The other day I asked God for an acronym for “rest” (that is, trust and rest in Him), and this is what I felt He spoke to me:

REST = Reserve Established by the Spirit of Truth

I shared this with a friend, and he shared with me an acronym using the word “busy” – which actually describes the counterfeit of true rest in God:

BUSY = Being Under Satan’s Yoke

If we are resting in God, we’ll have a reserve of energy in every way at all times! His Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, will do just as Jesus said – Guide us into all truth and reveals to us the things and words of God (John 16:13), comfort us, counsel us, help us. He will point our eyes to Christ in all things (John 15:26).

God fills every part of us with His Spirit: “they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:4)– our “souls” mean “our minds, will and emotions,” every part of us as well as the Spirit of God living inside of us! He will remind us of who we are as believers–children of the Living God saved by grace. He will teach us continually about who God is and who we are in Christ!

We’ve no reason to worry, fret, doubt or have any concern! God carries all our burdens if we let Him and renew our minds with His truth. He–the Uncreated One who created all things–holds everything together, and takes care of it all! Let us have holy UNconcern! (I heard this at a conference this weekend.)

Some other “R-words” come to mind as well:

  • Righteousness
  • Rest/Restoration
  • Reliance (dependence on God)
  • Rooted (in Christ)
  • Right Response (because rest and trust in God are just that!)
  • Reality (of living in complete trust with God)
  • Renewal/Renewed, Refreshing/Refreshed, Revival/Revived
  • Relaxed (we can be because God has everything under control!)
  • Redemption/Redeemed
  • River (as in “Rivers of Living Water”) – John 7:38

“He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water.”
(John 7:38 Amplified)

“[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, by having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints…”
(Ephesians 1:17-18 Amplified)

Can you think of any more “R-words” or related things to add to what has already been shared? Feel free to respond!

Prayer Focus: The Church

[God] is totally astounding, and I want to know Him more.
– Marty Parks (Quiet Moments for Worship Leaders)

My prayer for all of the Body of Christ (and in particular my own little-c church) is that we would hunger for God more and more and more, and that we would be so astounded by Him that we couldn’t be still or silent about the Good News of His salvation through Jesus Christ!

If you have a moment, pray for the whole Body of Christ and for your own area, that this would be. Pray, asking also what God would have you do in order to aid in His will being done.

What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?
Psalm 8:4

I Shall Yet Praise Him

Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.
(Psalm 42:11)

God is working. It feels slow, but it really isn’t–it’s just that the uglier things in myself He is showing me make it feel more drawn out. But I know He’s revealing such things only to make me more Christ-like.

I want my desires and the things I delight in to be what He wants me to delight in. I want to become the woman of God He is molding me into. I want to be a vessel open to His leading, to be used by Him however He seeks.

God is blessing too, though it can be harder to see at times. Sometimes it takes a while to listen to what He’s telling me will help; not just spiritually, but physically and emotionally as well so that I can be fully prepared to be used as He seeks. Finally I’m doing something about the layers of muscle tension that built up due to a former job that was hard on my body physically. It’ll take a little time, but hopefully not as long as I spent injuring myself.

God is also blessing me with people in my life who help and inspire me, even some of you! We don’t even know each other that well, but I so cherish all of you in the blog/Twitter world who inspire and reach out and who keep me, my family, and the church I serve in your prayers.

I pray for God to open my eyes to truly see how He is working in even the tiniest details. I want to see, hear, and perceive as He would have me to, and thank Him all the more for every single thing He is doing.

I want Him to continue doing surgery on this vessel, that I may become truly usable for His glory alone & to truly seek Him and His kingdom first. I don’t want to only glow for Him, I want the light to be a flood, touching every person who God puts in my path.

I don’t get so much of this Christian walk, but God is ever faithful. Despite all my worries and doubts I know that He will do all and more as He promises in His Word. I trust that He will give me the grace to be content in whatever His will is, however it pans out.
