Our Heavenly Father: The Best in Existence

Any true shepherd would go after even one of his sheep that was lost. And wouldn’t any father or mother search for their lost child in the marketplace until they were found?

And so we can know that God is a Dad unlike any other: He’s the best and most perfect parent in existence! God would search harder and longer and farther for even just one of His children than any human being could or would. He would go to more lengths than any. In fact, He did!

God went so far to rescue the very ones He created that He sacrificed His Son to save us. He so loved the world that He sent Jesus to take away our sin and give us eternal life (John 3:16-17). He so loved! He made you to love you. But He doesn’t force you to love Him back. He loves you even though there was nothing you could do to save yourself or be able to love Him back, so He did it for you: He sacrificed His Son out of His love for you.

“All of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. But God treats us much better than we deserve, and because of Christ Jesus, he freely accepts us and sets us free from our sins. God sent Christ to be our sacrifice. Christ offered his life’s blood, so that by faith in him we could come to God…” (Romans 3:23-25)

He loves you so much that He wants you to have eternal life and a relationship with Him. He wants to pour out all His infinite love on you. But because we all fall short of perfection–every single one of us has sinned (committed wrong) against God, others and even ourselves–and we are separated from God by our sin. But  because of Jesus, you will be saved if you:

  1. Ask God to forgive all of your sins and genuinely repent (turn away) from sin and turn to God.
  2. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and:
  3. Believe in your heart that you’ve been set free from sin because Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins, and then He was raised again from death to life by God.

Then you are saved and have become one of God’s children! Share it with someone–you’ve made the best decision of your life! Connect with other believers and a local church to help you grow as a believer and child of God. And remember that God will never forsake or leave His children, not even when we pass away from this life, but we will have eternal life with Him forever and have relationship with Him now! At that time of salvation we are also given God’s Holy Spirit as our Helper, who guides us who believe in living rightly for God according to His Word, His will and His ways as we walk by faith in God. By His Spirit, He also teaches us His truth, helps us to love others as He loves, and pours out His own love into our hearts.

We have an awesome and compassionate heavenly Dad who loves us! Our God who longs for those who don’t know Him to turn from evil and be brought into a relationship with Him so that He can love them and love them and love them! And so He can give them TRUE LIFE – the truest of life that comes only from Him!

With love God’s arms are outstretched to you. A smile on His face and compassion flowing from His heart, He awaits the joyful moment in which you will be in His embrace!

Come to Him, all you who long for love that will never leave you lonely. Come to Him, all you who long to truly belong. Come to Him, all you who are weary, longing to be made whole.

God loves you with an everlasting love. You are His, and He paid the highest price of love for you. He knows your struggles, troubles and fears, and He longs to take your burdens upon Himself. God is the one who will truly satisfy your emptiness. He longs to give you His unfailing love, true peace and unending joy.

Powerful Prayer

I was reading a post on the International House of Prayer (IHOPKC) site today, titled Praying the Word for Others, and one of the comments cited this passage:

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that IF WE ASK ANYTHING ACCORDING TO HIS WILL, HE HEARS US. And we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”
(1 John 5:14-15)

Most have read this passage many times, but the depth of all that John is expressing here penetrated my heart much more deeply this time.

  • If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

Even if you don’t feel close to God today. Even if you missed your quiet time today or all week… if you pray according to His will, He will hear you (and as I’ll reiterate below, He will answer you!)

  • whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Not only does He hear us as we pray according to His will, He answers! It seems overly simple, but when we think about this as we pray for the salvation of family members, for revival, or for growth in our relationship with Him, if it’s His will, we can expect His answers!

  • we know that He hears us…we know that we have the petitions we have asked of Him.

We know. We know. Sensing assurance through this repetition? And previously: this is the confidence that we have in Him. It is the confidence. We know we have it. It’s a done deal.

  • this is the confidence that we have in Him

Now that gives me greater hope and trust in my Saviour. Expectation for answers to prayer. Trust for salvation of souls. Hope for breakthroughs, restoration, and revival. Confidence that He hears our prayers as we ask according to His will, knowing that He isn’t just going to answer them, He is answering them!

“Our prayer becomes effectual, POWERFUL, fervent, DIRECT and humble when we present ourselves and others before the Throne Of Grace; when we pray according to His desires, rather than our own.”
(Comment from Praying the Word for Others post)

Pour Out Your Heart

My soul, wait in silence for God only,
For my hope is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
On God my salvation and my glory rest;
The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.
Trust in Him at all times, O people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us.

(Psalm 62:5-8)

God wants all of us–good and bad, successes and failures. He wants us to pour out our hearts to Him; He doesn’t want us to keep things inside and allow bitterness, fear, unforgiveness or resentment to take up residence in us.

Pour out your heart to Him–pour out everything! He loves you and knows all. He wants us to give Him all of ourselves and hold nothing back, whether what lies within us is amazingly good or horrendously bad! God wants to hear from us–He loves us and wants to heal, restore and redeem everything in us and in our lives!

God is our refuge, our strength, our salvation. He is our loving, heavenly Father who knows us more than anyone else! And He wants us to cling to Him and seek Him in all times. He wants to love on us–if only we would pour out our hearts to Him.

(God really used these verses to fill me tonight. If only all would truly know how much God loves them!)

Prayer Focus: The Church

[God] is totally astounding, and I want to know Him more.
– Marty Parks (Quiet Moments for Worship Leaders)

My prayer for all of the Body of Christ (and in particular my own little-c church) is that we would hunger for God more and more and more, and that we would be so astounded by Him that we couldn’t be still or silent about the Good News of His salvation through Jesus Christ!

If you have a moment, pray for the whole Body of Christ and for your own area, that this would be. Pray, asking also what God would have you do in order to aid in His will being done.

What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?
Psalm 8:4

Faith Not Feeling and Other Thoughts

I think so often we search for feelings & experiences, forgetting that the truth of God’s Word needs to never be neglected. We can only gain the knowledge & discernment we need through studying His Word, not basing our relationship with God too greatly on feelings or experiences. Our own feelings cannot be trusted–they change faster than the weather at times & are often the result of missed perceptions of people, situations & experiences.

Truth can rarely be known based solely on our feelings. We must continue to be in His Word, being sanctified by Him & surrendering to His will each day so that we can share the Good News & God’s truth with those who do not know Him. Then we can share the Gospel while truly being examples of how God is changing & growing us to be more Christ-like, & also grow in discernment as we study His Word.

We should be being transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:1-2), not giving only to get more, chasing after every feel-good speaker or anointing we hear about to gain artificial highs, or refusing to change from our pre-salvation selves thinking it doesn’t truly matter since we’ve been forgiven (see Romans 6). How can we be witnesses by our lives to the Gospel & how the truth of His Word renews our minds if we do not continually put off our old selves & actually renew our minds (Ephesians 4:21-32 & Colossians 3:1-10)?

Nonbelievers will see & hear us, but not care a bit when we share the Gospel if our lives look just like theirs. Instead they might say, “Well, I must be fine like I am because these Christians aren’t any different from before they became Christians.” If we are without joy and love, how will they want anything to do with what we have?

We should ache to share His love — because WOW! How He so loves us to have died for our sins — but a big part of being in a right relationship with Jesus Christ is making Him our Lord & Savior:  We must wholeheartedly repent of our sins in order to do so.

In turn, a desire should grow in us to do what God requires of us to grow this relationship through His Word & doing our part as He makes us more like Christ, also being obedient to share the Gospel with those we encounter in our lives as God leads us.

Something I heard spoken about recently was calling ourselves Christians & yet not living this label:

Christian. That’s our name — a word which has root in CHRIST. Instead let us change ourselves as we deliberately strive to become more like Christ Jesus, Who gave His life for us. Let us grow closer to God through studying His Word, & grow greater in love & unity each day of our lives on this earth, seeking to be witnesses for Christ in all of ourselves — word, deed, mind, heart, soul & strength.
