In this narrative, we find Zacharias and Elizabeth faithfully following the Lord and His ways. An area of lack remained in their lives despite this. Almost surprisingly, we discover that this lack was God-ordained! God had chosen this couple to bring forth John the Baptist–forerunner of Jesus–at just the right moment of time. Continue reading
It is important to meditate on the words God has spoken to us. We need to write them down so that we can run with them in walking with Jesus. These are words we can war with as we stir up our faith in God, jewels He gives us as reminders of His love and faithfulness.
God’s words are implanted deeper into our hearts as we spend time singing, praying and writing them. We are meditating on the Scripture and “now” words He speaks to our hearts. As we do, the Holy Spirit often brings deeper understanding to our hearts, not to mention His peace and love.
Kirk Bennett has a book on the topic, and this teaching really caused me to see the need to be intentional in doing this. For me, singing and writing are especially key, but for you, it may be speaking the Word aloud or something else. If you want to learn more, look into getting Kirk’s small workbook, Deepening Prophetic Revelation through Meditation.
Below is an example of me meditating on prophetic words given me by the Lord, and Scripture verses He brought to mind as I did:
“…I have taught you to put it in My hand. You DO put it in My hand, but when you leave, you take it back again like you do not trust Me to work out every detail for your good.” My heavenly Father’s words echo in my mind.
I desire to give it all to You, Father, not taking up again these worries and concerns for the future and the things of this life. I long to just trust You and live day-by-day in connection to You, unafraid of what life holds. You hold the keys to my heart. You hold me together and in You all things consist. I need not worry! You are faithful to my heart! You are faithful to complete the work that You have begun in me (Philippians 1:6).
“Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail).” (Psalm 55:22 AMP)
“My love is established in you and over you and around you. It is My love that saves you from every attack on earth. It is as I say it is, and you are My daughter, equipped with everything necessary for the plans I have for you. You are complete in Me…”
I remember the deep meaning of what the Lord had spoken to my heart that day, an evening during which I was so deeply in need of His intervening. Just now, the Holy Spirit is bringing another verse comes to my mind:
“…His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3 NKJV)
I long to hear Your voice. I love it when You speak to me. I love also to re-read what You have spoken to me, writing it out again as I am now, adding in words the deeper meaning to what You were saying so simply in order to minister to my heart. When You say I am Yours, You reiterate Your jealous love for me, the all-consuming love that comes from the One who Himself is an All-Consuming Fire.
“Let the regrets go; let the mistakes of your self and others go, for to dwell on them does no good at all and brings no change. Your trust in Me will bring the peace you seek. No more do I want you to look behind, but only look forward. Stop second guessing choices made, but pray instead that My hand is upon them…”
Father, help me to not second guess myself, doubt or worry concerning things of the past. Enable me to press on toward knowing Jesus more intimately, releasing to You the past and trusting You with both my present and my future. Lead me and guide me by Your Spirit, that I would not be led by the flesh or worldly thinking, nor by any other voice but Yours, and prosper me in my relationship with You.
“…forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14 NKJV)
No, I’m not speaking of tithes and offerings here, but of encouraging and serving.
“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full–pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” (Luke 6:38 NLT)
We have such need for more “givers” in the Body of Christ. Givers who are intimately connected with the Father’s desire to pour out His life and words into others.
There are so many seeking a word, so many desiring encouragement and so many needy. Yet aren’t we ALL? Remember that as you trust God with your need by putting others first, through encouraging them or asking Him to give you a word of edification for them, what you pour out will be given back to you shaken, pressed together and with more added on top unto overflowing! And remember giving a prophetic word is simply asking God for a word to edify, or build up, one of your brothers or sisters in Christ.
So as you have need of encouragement, encourage another in need (without even mentioning your own). As you desire the Lord to speak a word to you through someone else, ask Him to give you an edifying word for someone else.
Actively seek to do this, and you too will be encouraged, edified and loved on by our gracious God! And remember, all who are His can prophesy! So try it, and trust God’s Spirit to lead and teach you as you do!
“You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.”
That You, Lord, do not outright place us into the abundant place of blessing in our destiny right away is a thing of immeasurable good.
You first bring us to the wilderness. There You bring us to the end of ourselves and to the fullness of You. You test and humble us, equip and grow us–lest we fall hard and become prey to the temptations of success and blessing.
It is because of Your great goodness and love that You do this. You know what is best for Your children whom You love. Your banner over us is love! Your leadership is perfect! Your ways are just, true and right.
You want us to live for You and by Your living words of life, being led by Your Spirit alone. To do so more and more, to be deep calling unto Your deep, takes time spent growing in relationship with You. It takes time spent seeking the depths of Your Presence in the Holy of Holies by which we have access through the blood of Christ. It takes growing in hearing Your voice and obeying You. It takes patience, trust and faith in You.
You are good, so good. Your love for us is so deep. Your leadership of our lives is wholly right and truly perfect, laden with Your perfect love for us as You say, “I only want the absolute best for you. Will you trust me, My child?”
God has the very best for you. In hardship or trials, trust Him. In the pain of hope deferred, trust Him. In times of fear or failure, trust Him.
He sees you! He loves you! He has the very best for you!
The other day I asked God for an acronym for “rest” (that is, trust and rest in Him), and this is what I felt He spoke to me:
REST = Reserve Established by the Spirit of Truth
I shared this with a friend, and he shared with me an acronym using the word “busy” – which actually describes the counterfeit of true rest in God:
BUSY = Being Under Satan’s Yoke
If we are resting in God, we’ll have a reserve of energy in every way at all times! His Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, will do just as Jesus said – Guide us into all truth and reveals to us the things and words of God (John 16:13), comfort us, counsel us, help us. He will point our eyes to Christ in all things (John 15:26).
God fills every part of us with His Spirit: “they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:4)– our “souls” mean “our minds, will and emotions,” every part of us as well as the Spirit of God living inside of us! He will remind us of who we are as believers–children of the Living God saved by grace. He will teach us continually about who God is and who we are in Christ!
We’ve no reason to worry, fret, doubt or have any concern! God carries all our burdens if we let Him and renew our minds with His truth. He–the Uncreated One who created all things–holds everything together, and takes care of it all! Let us have holy UNconcern! (I heard this at a conference this weekend.)
Some other “R-words” come to mind as well:
- Reliance (dependence on God)
- Rooted (in Christ)
- Right Response (because rest and trust in God are just that!)
- Reality (of living in complete trust with God)
- Renewal/Renewed, Refreshing/Refreshed, Revival/Revived
- Relaxed (we can be because God has everything under control!)
- River (as in “Rivers of Living Water”) – John 7:38
“He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water.”
(John 7:38 Amplified)
- Revelation (of God and who we are in Him, of His truths) – Ephesians 1:17-21
“[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, by having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints…”
(Ephesians 1:17-18 Amplified)
